    TIPS ON CHOOSING MUSIC FOR WINTER WEDDINGS

    When choosing music for winter weddings it’s important to take into consideration your own personal taste and your fiancée’s taste, but also the theme of the wedding and the location. It’s probably not appropriate to have a loud rock and roll song blaring as you walk down the aisle of a stately old Gothic church. While it is your special day, you are sharing it with family and friends and you should try to make them comfortable as well. For the ceremony most couples choose a piece of classical music to be played live by a musician or string quartet, or played on a CD. If you are using a CD make sure that the CD isn’t scratched and plays well, and that you have a reliable person standing by to press play and stop it where appropriate. If possible, have a professional record the CD with pauses in all the right places for the ceremony so that the CD just needs to be started and then can play throughout the ceremony.


    Music for the reception

    Whether you have a band or a DJ, make sure that the music played is appropriate for the age levels of your guests, and that it fits your theme. If you have a Romantic Valentine’s Day theme, then choose lots of soft, romantic music for the reception instead of loud dance music or rock. If you have a lot of family and friends who will be attending that are older, mix some classic 40’s and 50’s big crooner music and rock classics into the mix so that they will enjoy themselves as well. If you want to stay away from the traditional reception music like Sister Sledge’s hit “We are Family” and other songs that are almost always played at weddings, consider that a lot of people expect to hear those songs at weddings and often enjoy hearing them at weddings and consider adding them to the play list for the night. Your family and friends who are expecting to “Chicken Dance” the night away will be disappointed if you don’t give them that opportunity even if you would rather break your foot than do the “Chicken Dance” in public.

    No matter what music you choose, a great way to save money on the reception is to rent a multiple CD changer that holds 50 or 100 CDs, and then make your own wedding CDs to play during the reception. Have the Best Man or Maid of Honor act as the emcee for the evening and then you can hear all the music you like without the expense of a band or a DJ.

    Want to do something different? Consider renting a karaoke machine for the reception and have guests provide the music. Having a karaoke machine is a great idea at a reception where you will have a wide age range of people because everyone from little kids to the elderly can participate in the fun and enjoy the reception.
